TRANSFORMING THE FUTURE THROUGH AUTOMATED VEHICLE OPERATION-BASED INFRASTRUCTURE-VEHICLE COMMUNICATION

Deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies, especially ITS Transit technologies, has been significant and continuing throughout this past decade in the United States with an emphasis on both operational efficiencies and safety. By the end of the decade, however, a significant trend was observed which will take the development and deployment of ITS technologies further into the future toward a fully-automated, multimodal, integrated, seamless transportation system. Although the basis of this transformation will be the "infrastructure" of a completely integrated vehicle system, this transformation will also include (a) an integrated vehicle-infrastructure communication system, and (b) an integrated vehicle to vehicle communication system.
