EVALUATING URGENT MESSAGE TRANSMISSION PERFORMANCE OF HIGHLY RELIABLE QUALITY OF SERVICE (QOS) METHOD FOR SMART GATEWAYS
The Telecommunications Advancement Organization of Japan (TAO) has put forward the concept of the smart gateway (SG), which uses dedicated short-range communication (DSRC), as a way of improving driver safety and comfort. The system will provide a variety of information, such as that on cruising-assistance that requires a guarantee of transmission within a particular period and multimedia information. The roadside system, which is a component of the SG, needs a reliable communication technology. This technology must be able to prioritize urgent messages, such as information on accidents, over other less urgent messages. The highly reliable quality of service (HQoS) method determines the priority of data from the viewpoint of the driver as opposed to that of the sender. The HQoS method exhibited very satisfactory performance in experiments using real cars and real base stations in this paper.
