THE URBAN TRANSPORTATION IN TIME OF CRISIS. THE CASE OF HAVANA

The evolution of urban transportation in Havana, capital of the Republic of Cuba (2,2 million inhahitants in 2000, a million in the fifties) went through ups and downs for more than one century. The last crisis happened in the early nineties of the XXth century. The lessons learned in this experience rich past will supply the basis for the design in the new century of an integrated and sustainable urban transport system for all in Havana, conceived as a contribution to the quality of life, with four prevailing objectives: equity, efficiency, economy of resources and ecological values.
