ADAPTIVE TRAJECTORY SEGMENTATION METHOD AND ITS APPLICATION IN IN-CAR NAVIGATION SYSTEM
This study investigates methods and algorithms that can make use of the properties of each kind of input data and meet the requirements of automobile navigation systems. It proposes a new method called adaptive trajectory segmentation (ATS) which can continuously capture and derive vehicle trajectory into data sets of small lengths from dead reckoning measurements, Global Positioning System (GPS) measurements, and the database. The data are used for map matching purposes, determining the dead reckoning sensor parameter, and correcting the vehicle position when driven off the road. Results from tests show that the segment positions can be determined with an accuracy of 15 meters or better anywhere without continuous GPS availability.
