ANALYSIS OF CONTAINMENT STRUCTURES FOR DISCRETELY ARRIVING TRANSIENT LOADS
In the analysis of nuclear reactor containment structures, discretely arriving hydrodynamic forces are some of the major loads. Examples of these loads are the safety relief valve (SRV) pipe clearing loads and post loss of coolant accident (LOCA) hydrodynamic loads including chugging in the boiling water reactor (BWR) containment. Depending upon the system and piping layout, these loads may also occur at different time instants, thus giving rise to significant nonsymmetrical response in the structure. To save computational cost, a frequency response analysis approach is developed and presented in this paper. Frequency response characteristics of the structure are obtained in terms of the frequency response transfer functions. The formulation to use these response functions to obtain the total response for a set of discretely arriving forcing functions is presented. A computer program entitled FAST has been developed for analyzing structures by this procedure.
