STUDY ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PERFORMANCE MONITORING USING PHS AND GPS
The basic technical performance of data communications equipment was monitored by conducting tests using PHS (personal handyphone systems) and GPS (global positioning systems) to propose methods for acquiring information on purpose and modes of trip by vocal means, and to consider the most effective methods which may be used to these ends. Performance of a study using PHS and GPS indicated that it was possible to obtain data which it has not previously been possible to obtain adequately by means of conventional O-D (origin-destination) surveys. It became evident that combined use of GPS and CTI (computer telephony integration) technology enabled the automatic generation of trip data and made it possible to obtain information on the purpose and modes of trip and on destination facilities.
