AN EMPIRICAL EXAMINATION OF SHIPPER PERCEPTIONS OF SERVICE-SELECTION ATTRIBUTES IN FIVE TRUCKLOAD INDUSTRY SEGMENTS

In this article, the authors present an evaluation of the perceptions of more than 700 shippers using dry van, temperature controlled, tank, intermodal, and flatbed services in the truckload industry. A MANOVA comparison was made of forty-two attributes among five truckload industry segments regarding service-selection attributes such as reputation, responsiveness, availability, as well as e-business and international related ones. It was found that most of the significant differences occurred between the dry van and temperature controlled segments.
