ELITE - THE EAST LEEDS QUALITY BUS INITIATIVE
Elite (the East Leeds Quality Bus Initiative) was initiated to make travel into and out of the city centre from the east easier. A public relations agency was hired to keep the public informed about Elite. Elite is part of a programme to improve traffic networks in the city. This has included investment in heavy rail and light rail and improvements to the road network. Elite is based on 2.1 km of guided busway and 2.6 km of other priority measures. The guided busway in the centre of the road consists of a concrete trough in which the bus runs. The bus is kept off the kerb by guide wheels attached to the bus. FirstGroup and Arriva buses are equipped with this equipment. New bus shelters will also be provided with passenger information.
