CALDERDALE GETS THE FIRST US YELLOW SCHOOL BUS TRIAL
Calderdale in West Yorkshire is to be the first area to put the new FirstGroup American Bluebird yellow school buses on trial. The buses will serve the Hebden Bridge, Heptonstall, Colden and Blackshaw Head areas. The same drivers to work on the same routes throughout the year and know which children to expect. The buses are equipped with two-way communication with the operating depot and the schools. Changes were made to the buses to meet the UK Department of Transport requirements. West Yorkshire PTE (Metro) coordinates school bus journeys in the region. The views of representatives of Metro, Calderdale Rural Transport Partnership and Calderdale Council and a yellow bus driver on the introduction of yellow buses in the area are presented. The advantages of the bus design are outlined. The vehicles have safety features such as steel bodies and roll over bars.
