ON THE ROAD WITH THE OPTARE ALERO
The design of the Optare Alero low floor bus is described. The bus has a composite body made of stainless steel and thermoplastic. The shell is colour impregnated. The vehicle can seat up to 16 passengers or 14 plus 1 wheelchair user. Access is by a pair of outward opening plug doors and there is a manual ramp for wheelchair access. The bus has a slim stainless steel chassis with the prop shaft fed through the chassis to the rear axle. Details are given of the suspension, radiator, tyres, bonnet, dimensions, and seats. The author describes the handling and performance of the Alero in his test drive of the vehicle.
