EQUIPMENT FOR VEHICLE HANDLING MEASUREMENTS

In order to make the analysis when measuring vehicle dynamics easier, Saab Automobile AB in Trollhaettan wished to try out a different kind of measuring equipment than used earlier. Until now a gyrostabilised accelerometer platform, RMS-FEP 27, has been used. The disadvantage with with this equipment is that the passenger seat has to be removed to be able to use it. If a comparison between Saab's own cars and other competitors are made, the competitors cars are often borrowed and no damage is allowed. To avoid this an idea from General Motors is to be tested. The idea is built upon the usage of two accelerometers for measuring lateral acceleration and longitudinal acceleration, a rate gyro for measuring yaw rate and a separate roll angle measuring device. The requirements on the equipment was: 1. No damage on the test vehicle is allowed. 2. Easy to install and uninstall. 3. Keep the costs down. 4. Power supplied with 12 V from the vehicle's battery. The final result is a bar for measuring roll angle and a table for sensors and signal conditioning. The bar consists of two laser sensors, a bar and two supports, and the table of a sensor unit, a signal conditioning unit, a DC/DC-converter and a table of legs. (A)
