GRAND CENTRAL: GATEWAY TO MILLION LIVES
Grand Central Station was originally built as a symbol of the Vanderbuilts' personal fame and fortune; but the building's birth, survival, and restoration reflect not only the changes that have taken place in our country's history, culture, and social consciousness but also the critical role arechitecture plays in the expansion of our cities. The book discusses the historic legal battle to save Grand Central; a choronologic history of the previous two stations on the site; the construction of the previous building; and human interest stories that evolve the building. Provided is a detailed account of not only the $200 million physical restoration, but also the politics of achieving such a huge feat. A wonderful visual presentation of the new Grand Central in its restored glory is also provided.
