ANALYSIS AND FORECAST OF AIR TRANSPORT DEMAND IN SARDINIA'S AIRPORTS AS A FUNCTION OF TOURISM VARIABLES
The paper examines the potential of an econometrics approach for forecasting air transport demand in order to identify and select the most significant variables for multivariable linear regression models. ARIMA models were used to evaluate each independent variable after rendering the historic series stationary. The models obtained were tested on three Sardinian airports in order to identify the most suitable and characteristic variables for representing air transport demand. Time series for the annual passenger demand movements were constructed for each airport expressed in absolute terms and index number.
