A VENTILATION SIMULATOR FOR ROAD TUNNEL CONTROL
A numerical model of evolving air flows and pollution concentrations in road tunnel networks is introduced. The model is shown to be well suited to its intended use within a selection-based optimisation process requiring a simulator that is detailed, fast, accurate and wide-ranging. For steady-state traffic conditions, the model is validated by comparison with analytical solutions. For non-steady conditions, it is validated by comparison with an independent simulator that uses completely different methods of calculating air flows and pollution transport. It is found that the evolution of pollution concentrations is represented accurately even when conditions change more rapidly than is likely in practice. For the covering abstract see ITRD E112419.
