BIG TECHNOLOGY HELPS SMALL COMMUNITIES INCREASE SURVEYING PRODUCTIVITY

This article describes the successes of the small community of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin in purchasing and employing surveying and civil engineering software to boost productivity and efficiency. It relates how an intuitive CDIS (coordinate design and information system) was applied to a street and bike path improvement project. Key features to look for when selecting appropriate surveying and civil engineering software include: 1) its ease in use; 2) whether or not it offers the features, speed and precision that are needed without adding any modules; 3) the availability of support services; and 4) an appropriate pricing structure.
