BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION. IN: BRIDGE ENGINEERING: CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE

Bridge construction inspection provides quality assurance for building bridges and plays a very important role in the bridge industry. Bridge construction involves two types of structures: permanent and temporary. Permanent structures, including foundations, abutments, piers, columns, wingwalls, superstructures, and approach slabs, are those that perform the structural functions of a bridge during its service life. Temporary structures, such as shoring systems, guying systems, forms and falsework, are those that support the permanent structures during its erection and construction. The paper discusses inspection principles, followed by the guidelines for inspection materials, construction operations, component construction, and temporary structures. Also discussed are safety considerations and documentation.
