ANALYSIS OF USERS' NEEDS FOR PROVISION OF MULTI-MODAL TRANSPORT INFORMATION BASED ON SOCIAL EXPERIMENT

Services providing independent information on road traffic as well as on public transport have recently been widespread in many developed countries. Multi-modal information which makes travelers choose most appropriate mode or supports users to transfer transits efficiently, however, is not necessarily provided sufficiently so far. Thus, there have been few studies to analyze the actual demand of such information and to evaluate the effects of the information provision. This study aims at examining the user's attitudes toward the multi-modal information which is provided in home or office prior to trip making. A social experiment was conducted by an NPO (Nonprofit Organization) in Hiroshima, FY2000, in order to understand how the multi-modal information system should be organized. The object of the experiment was the inhabitants who travel from the housing complex in the northern part of Hiroshima City to the center.
