A CASE OF PILE SOCKET CAPACITY AND ROCK MASS CLASSIFICATION
The control of the design and construction of bored pile sockets has been achieved by the implementation of a rock mass classification system and its related socket capacity design derived from Australian practice. The foundation material encountered on site is weathered and fractured with a wide range of properties: The proposed system needed a rational adaptation for application in design and control at the local site and the success of the method has been validated by the load/settlement performance of the tested piles. The required adaptation is driven by practical consideration of site factors that has to take into account the problems of identification and management of the heterogeneity of material encountered.
