MEDICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL CAR CRASH PREVENTION ASPECTS IN KABARDINO-BALKARIA

Prevention of roadside crashes (RC) in Kabardino-Balkaria has become a rather acute problem as in many other countries, though in the studied region, there is a slight decrease in main crash indices since 1991, as compared with those of the previous years. Throughout 1986-1990 ( 1st period), there was a notable increase in the RC rates from 996 to 1123, fatalities - from 191 to 281, injuries - from 1161 to 1280 (absolute figures). Since 1991, up to 1995 (2nd period), on the contrary, there was a decrease of these parameters - RC total 774, fatalities - 208 and injuries - 925, respectively. The same decreasing trend was reflected by main roadside safety (RF) indices throughout the 3rd period: RC - from 812 in 1996 to 578 in 2000, fatalities - from 195 to 145, and injuries - from 836 to 668, correspondingly.(A) For the covering abstract of the conference, see ITRD Abstract No. E201067.
