MULTIPURPOSE SMART CARDS IN TRANSPORTATION : BENEFITS AND BARRIERS TO USE
This paper examines how smart cards have been used in a variety of situations, with focus on Hong Kong and Paris. Four man reasons for adopting smart cards are discussed: cost reduction, service improvement, fare policy flexibility, and increased revenues.
