A PROPOSAL FOR PARTIAL SAFETY FACTORS FOR SOIL PRESSURES IN BS 8110
The technical note is concerned with the apparent contradiction noted between BS 81101 and BS 8002 in the treatment of soil loads. Both codes are under review with the possibility that ideas suggested in the note may be incorporated into later publications. The problem described concerns a difference in safety factor specified in the two codes concerning soil active and passive pressures when designing soil retaining structures. BS 8110 is said to be under review to clarify how the two codes should be used when designing concrete soil retaining structures.
