TRACK DESIGN AND MAINTENANCE ON THE HUDSON-BERGEN LIGHT RAIL
The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) is the first design build operate maintain (DBOM) light rail system in this country, and it entails both design and build, but also incorporates operations and maintenance for 15 years upon completion of the construction. This paper is presented from the perspectives of a trackman or track inspector maintaining the subject track and providing input for the future design of a similar system. General and specific track related issues are presented and discussed with suggestions regarding design and construction that may improve operations and maintenance of the overall track structure in this and subsequent similar projects.
