THINK TRANSIT: TEACHING HOW TO INCORPORATE NEW KINDS OF TRANSIT IN SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES
The paper describes 'THINK Transit', an innovative education program that represents an essential approach to increasing public transit ridership by focusing on young riders at the college and middle school levels. The program teaches about successful transit systems and promotes the benefits of alternatives to automobiles for mobility. Incentives to understand and work with the THINK Transit material include a field trip for the middle school students developing the most innovative marketing curriculum for improving ways to THINK Transit. The program creates an opportunity for young people as both educators and students to consider the need for improved transit systems and the community commitment that is necessary to make public transit alternatives, as well as other transit alternatives, successful.
