LESSONS LEARNT FROM DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF 225.5 METRE LONG HATUBHANGA BRIDGE OVER BANGSHI RIVER IN TANGAIL DISTRICT OF BANGLADESH

The Hatubhanga bridge over the Bangshi river in Bangladesh was built under a turnkey design-build contract. Monico Ltd. was the turnkey contractor and Design Planning and Management Consultants Ltd. was the design and supervision contractor. The bridge contains 11 spans. The design philosophy is described with reference to bridge design standards and loading and the bridge superstructure (composite construction, deck continuity). A composite construction of a reinforced concrete deck girder bridge was selected. The use of a temporary modular truss for girder construction is outlined and the results of static lateral load testing of piles are presented. The cost of the bridge was TK.41.08 million.
