INNOVATIONS IN CNG MOTOR COACHES
This article provides an overview of a dedicated compressed natural gas (CNG) motor coach utilizing a new Detroit Diesel Series 60, 400-hp, high torque engine. This new motor coach product includes an Americans With Disabilities Act-compliant wheelchair lift and room for 49 forward-facing reclining seats with a 400-mile range. As part of a conference on national parks, the new motor coach was tested in Yosemite National Park (California) at 6,000 ft. altitudes and on steep grades. Features of the new CNG-dedicated engine and a summary are provided.
