THE LISBON PMS: INITIAL ACTIVITIES AND PLANNED DEVELOPMENTS

On 25th August 1999, the Lisbon City Council (LCC) and the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Coimbra (DEC) signed an agreement aimed at the implementation of a Geographical Information System (GIS)-based Pavement Management System (PMS) for the Lisbon road network. The agreement will be developed over the next three years at least, with University support for several activities. Among these activities the most important are design of the pavement data survey; development of Pavement Database explored by a GIS; development of a Quality Evaluation Tool; and development of a Decision-Aid Tool, for optimum allocation of financial resources to maintenance and rehabilitation actions.
