SURFACE SETTLEMENTS IN URBAN TUNNELLING WORKS: DESIGN APPROACH FOR TOULON UNDERGROUND MOTORWAY CROSSING

Surface settlements limitation is one of the main targets in the designing of tunnels in soft ground under urban areas. The first step is the determination of the acceptable limits for the different types of buildings and foundations. Tunnel design must then select and adapt construction methods to comply with these limits. Application of this problem on the Toulon underground motorway crossing is described with contractual implications. For the covering abstract see ITRD E108371.
