DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROL SYSTEM USING PERSONAL COMPUTERS

This article describes the development of a cost-efficient, personal computer-based road traffic control system by Sumitomo Electric in Japan. The system is part of the Universal Traffic Management System (UTMS). The article also describes the Management by Origin- Destination Related Adaptation for Traffic Optimization (MODERATO) traffic control technique.
