This paper deals with the implementation of ISO elements for laboratory testing in highway construction and rehabilitation projects. The paper provides an overview of the ISO concept and elaborates on the tools available to apply and practice the theory of continuous quality improvement. The ISO system is described in depth and guidelines for the preparation of a laboratory quality manual are presented. The benefits of adopting an ISO system are also discussed.
