The main scopes of the project are to rehabilitate the deck and to upgrade the seismic capacity of the Lemoine Avenue bridge. The 405 ft long bridge consists of seven simply-supported spans that were constructed in three periods over thirty years. Four out of six bridge piers, used to function as abutments, were designed based on different criteria with non-uniform capacities against earthquake loads. The in-depth evaluation for the piers and abutments leads to an optional bearing arrangement that minimizes the retrofit costs. Two piers are found inadequate to endure the design seismic load and recommended being strengthened. All existing steel rocker bearings are replaced due to their poor performance.
