TURNING DOWN THE VOLUME

New awareness of hearing loss stirs efforts to limit damage. In March in Washington, DC, the Laborers' Health and Safety Fund, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health will host a conference aimed at raising awareness about noise and hearing loss. Armed with studies showing pervasive loss among construction workers, occupational health experts and government officials are likely to call for bringing the less-stringent construction hearing protection provisions into line with the general industry rules.
