PREVENTION OF BRIDGE DECK SHEET MEMBRANE WATERPROOFING BLISTERING. FINAL REPORT

SILTOJEN KERMIERISTYKSEN KUPLIMISEN ESTAMINEN

The aim of the study was to determine the causal connections for the formation of blistering on bridge deck sheet membrane waterproofing and to provide the necessary information for mak-ing modifications to documents concerning bridge construction and repair. The background for the study was the increase in sheet membrane blistering which has occurred during the 1990's since the use of protective screed was enbrely replaced by air-entrained bridge concrete types. The study was conducted from 1996-98. The study produced two preliminary reports, in which the test methods and results have been presented in more details than in the final report. The final report includes a description of bridge deck waterproofing systems and blistering problems of Finnish bridges, as well as an analysis of domestic and international studies carried out in this field and the results of 13 separate experimental or theoretical studies.
