SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE WITH AUTONOMOUS INTELLIGENT CRUISE CONTROL (AICC). PART 2, RESULTS AND CONSLUSIONS

This paper presents results and conclusions of different real traffic evaluation studies on Autonomous Intelligent Cruise Control (AICC) carried out within the scope of PROMETHEUS. These studies show, among others, that AICC is 1) perceived as a comfort oriented and safety enhancing driver assistance system; 2) implies a high amount of user acceptance; 3) reduces mental workload; 4) can cause modifications of driver behavior; and, 5) can lead to a harmonization of headways.
