CHANNEL TUNNEL RAIL LINK - PLANNING AND PEOPLE - PROCEEDINGS OF THE ICE CIVIL ENGINEERING - SPECIAL ISSUE

This publication contains 11 papers on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, covering the history of the idea from 1971-90, the planning process/approval in 1997, UK legislation, and community relations during construction (all by B. Gambrill), financing/risk transfer (M. Bayley), land acquisition procedures (S. Bowman), the contract partnership (A. Cathcart), project quality management (D. Keeling), rail safety (S. French), the complaints commissioner (J. A. Kennerley), and Cobham Ashenbank management scheme/Rail Link countryside initiative (D. Standen). Details are given of the abandonment of the scheme in 1975 for financial reasons, delays in the planning process, public private partnership financing, the problems of carving a new route through densely populated parts of SE England, quality control collectively benefiting all contractors, and environmental protection and enhancement.
