MICROTUNNELING IN URBAN AREAS, 3-DIMENSIONAL MODEL AND MEASUREMENTS

Microtunneling techniques are becoming more and more popular in densely populated urban areas, especially in Japan. In this contribution an Eulerean 3-dimensional finite element model is presented which can be used to predict soil movements, such as surface heave or settlement. Numerically calculated results are compared to measured results during installation of a microtunnel.
