APPLICATIONS OF ANNS IN TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING : DEVELOPMENT OF A NEURAL TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROL SYSTEM
In this dissertation, the author examines artificial neural network applications in transportation, including the justifications advantages and limitations of their applications. Focus is on a neural network paradigm for roadway traffic signal control at isolated intersections. The system stresses adaptive, human-like thinking and self-organizing performance.
