PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF ASPHALT PAVEMENTS WITH STABILIZED SUBGRADES
This paper describes the performance evaluation of asphalt pavements with stabilized subgrades. As an example, a soft subgrade, artificially made from kaolin with 2% initial CBR, is stabilized with lime and cement in such a way that its CBR increases from 2%-20%. Deformation characteristics of these stabilizing materials are determined by performing a repeated loading triaxial compression test. Then, by setting up some pavement sections with and without stabilized subgrades following the design manual for asphalt pavements, performance evaluation is carried out in terms of three different serviceability indices which are very often employed in practice.
