DYNAMIC TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEM FOR URBAN EXPRESSWAY WITH CONSTRAINT OF OFF-RAMP QUEUE LENGTH

This study proposes a dynamic inflow control model to which linear programming is applied. In this model, the time-dependent changes in both the inflow demand and the traffic condition on the network are explicitly considered in order to obtain the optimal inflow at on-ramps which can make the network more efficient. Especially, the speed-density relation of each link is introduced into the inflow control model to predict precisely time-of-day dynamics of traffic conditions on the network. In addition, the constraint of off-ramp queue length is incorporated into this model to prevent traffic jams caused by the excess of outflow over the off-ramp capacity. This study examines the significance and usefulness of the proposed model through simple numerical experiments.
