INTELLIGENCE ON BOARD - MODERN APPROACH TO TRANSIT FLEET MANAGEMENT

The technology described in this paper is supplied by INIT GmbH ("Innovations in Transit, Inc") of Karlsruhe/Germany who is a leading supplier of transit fleet navigation, management and information systems in Europe with over fifteen years experience and more than fifty systems implemented in Germany, Austria, Sweden, and Spain. INIT's computer-integrated "Intelligent Transportation System (ITS)" is a comprehensive hardware and software suite for enhanced fleet navigation, operational control and management, and passenger service including fare management in public transportation. ITS provides fully autonomous vehicle operation (the "Smart Vehicle") by utilizing comprehensive intelligence on board. The core of ITS is the Intelligent On-Board Computer utilized as the control and communication unit and the central data base on board each vehicle.
