MENS AND WOMEN'S MOBILITY IN SWEDEN: DEVELOPMENT FROM 1978 TO 1995 - ARE THE DIFFERENCES INCREASING OR DECREASING?

MAENS OCH KVINNORS ROERLIGHET I SVERIGE: UTVECKLINGEN MELLAN 1978 OCH 1995 - OEKAR ELLER MINSKAR SKILLNADERNA?

This study compares mobility statistics for men and women in Sweden. Traffic survey trends from 1978-1995 are analysed. The main results show that men travel 47 km and women 32 km per person and day. This general inequality has partly been neutralised during the period. Mobility depends on several factors, of which car accessibility, driving licence and journey to work length are important. Other factors are gender differences in the labour market and household organization.
