A FINITE ACCELERATION SCHEME FOR FIRST ORDER MACROSCOPIC TRAFFIC FLOW MODELS
It is shown in this paper how to introduce the boundedness of the acceleration of vehicles into the framework of first order macroscopic traffic flow models. Two methods are described, one based on a heuristic estimate of the local traffic acceleration, the second one exploiting the non-uniqueness of the solutions of the equations which describe first order macroscopic traffic flow models. Both methods are directly applicable to discretized models and therefore suitable for implementation in applications such as ramp metering.
