SAA- JA KELIETOON PERUSTUVAN LIIKENTEEN OHJAUSJARJESTELMAN VAIKUTUKSET KOTKA-HAMINA-MOOTTORITIELLA [EFFECTS OF THE WEATHER-CONTROLLED TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ON THE MOTORWAY BETWEEN KOTKA AND HAMINA]

This study investigated the effects of weather controlled speed limits and displays on driver behavior. Data on vehicle speeds and headways and driver acceptance were collected. Variable message and speed limit signs and detector loops were used to collect the data. The study concluded that weather controlled speed limits and displays led to a decrease in traffic speed, and acceptance by drivers. The system, however, was not found to be economically profitable.
