POPOUTS IN EXPOSED CONCRETE FLATWORK
In many parts of the U.S., nature has supplied us with coarse aggregate that contains small amounts of deleterious particles. The aggregate may meet all relevant specifications, but some types of deleterious aggregate cause popouts on the surface. There are other causes of popouts and scaling such as improper placement, finishing, and curing. This article addresses popouts that occur on a properly placed and cured surface. The intent of this article is to assist the parties involved by suggesting a guideline for the acceptance of popouts.
