ASSESSMENT, REPAIRS AND REFURBISHMENT OF A STEEL LATTICED TRUSS VIADUCT
This paper describes work undertaken on the assessment and strengthening of a steel viaduct in West London. The discovery of cracks led to a range of repair options which were evaluated using a three dimensional finite element model of the components of the bridge structure. The solution adopted, reduced live load stresses as well as providing an alternative load path, and most importantly, it avoided the need for lengthy closure of the motorway during the work.
