BETTER TRAFFIC INFORMATION. RDS-TMC FIELD TESTS. PHASE 2. FINAL REPORT

BESSERE VERRKEHRSINFORMATION (BEVE). FELDVERSUCH MIT RDS-TMC. PHASE 2. PROJEKTKOORDINATION, WISSENSCHAFTLICHE BETREUUNG UND VERSUCHSFAHRENBEFRAGUNG. SCHLUSSBERICHT

The radio broadcasting of digitally coded traffic warning messages via RDS-TMC has been tested in a field trial in the Rhineland. For the analysis of questions still open at the end of the field trial a second phase was set up. The objectives also comprised a field study with 25 test drivers and the linking of BEVEI with the TMC pilot projects. The project office was responsible for the project organization and coordination, the general scientific supervision as well as the supervision and questioning of the 25 test drivers. An additional task during the course of the project was the interviewing of the TMC operators of the four Laender participating in BEVEI II. The overall response was distinctly positive. In contrast to the test drivers, the operators were not interested in the quality of the messages but in the quality of the message management. The analysis of the interview results show where the respective deficits are located. The majority of project participants made sure of consequently continuing the preparation for the real service till it finally can be established. The project office feels that after a modification of the concept and its subsequent realization, RDS-TMC is suitable for real service.
