THE POTENTIAL FOR ELECTRIC TRACTION IN NORTH AMERICAN CITIES
In section one, this document provides history and present statistics for public transit systems in North American Cities. It provides two case histories, San Diego (doing it right) and Los Angeles (Los Angeles). The transit modes discussed are: commuter rail; heavy metro; light rail; electric trolley bus; and people movers/cable traction. Section 2 discusses: railcar cost containment; AC and DC for electric railways; and vehicle standardization. Section 3 looks at the future with an emphasis on existing properties and proposals. A directory of manufacturers is also provided.
