HYBRID STRUCTURAL CONTROL
This paper presents a rational design strategy for optimally integrating passive and active control for structural systems. The design methodology combines systems theory with Suh's Principles of Axiomatic Design, and involves iterating on the stiffness, damping, and active control force distributions to achieve a state of essentially uniform deformation under the design loading. Numerical results for a range of shear beam type structures are included to illustrate convergence and the degree of optimality one can reasonably achieve with hybrid control.
