MULTIMODAL EFFECTS IN TRAFFIC CORRIDORS: APPLICATIONS OF THE MODEL POLYDROM

POLYDROM is used to analyse traffic corridors. Its capability is an intermodal approach with free combination of transport types, means and modes, completed by an assignment integrated calibration tool. For the analysis of the corridor Basle - Chiasso, POLYDROM was equipped with special tools to look at effects of capacity restrictions on the accessibility and the proportions of corridor traffic. The investigation bases on several runs with different capacities of the corridor axis. Under weekday conditions, the capacity is sufficient. The gain in using the Gotthard-axis is so high, that there were only small differences in traffic assignment. Capacity problems occur on summer weekends. Then traffic volume can rise up to over 200% of average daily traffic. This simulation showed the effect of the capacity restrictions. For the small reaction under average conditions intermodal effects are not expected. It is provided to analyse it by a known modal split function. For the covering abstract see IRRD 873901.
