A NEW METHODOLOGY FOR ROUTING VEHICLES IN IVHS WITH ENVIRONMENTAL OBJECTIVES

This paper describes the concepts and efforts of including environmental concerns into the traffic routing approaches in an IVHS environment. An environmental-based dynamic traffic routing approach is developed by expanding a travel-time-based dynamic traffic-assignment model into a form that incorporates the revised TRANSYT-7F fuel consumption and emission formulas into its objective functions. The new approach adopts the environmental traffic-assignment principles that are established in this research to achieve various environmental objectives as well as deal with the traffic flow and control dynamic signal plans, traffic incidents, queue growth and decay, en route rerouting and queue spill-back.
