PROBABILISTIC DESIGN OF RUBBLE MOUND BREAKWATERS: THE WAY AHEAD

A new method of probabilistic design of rubble mound breakwaters which introduces a radical change in design philosophy has been developed. The new method is briefly described. The main lines of research are indicated, practical application by design engineers is recommended, and suggestion are made for improvement of codes of practice.
